#IoTDinner available to view in Virtual Reality (May 2016)
We were very fortunate indeed to be joined at the #IoTDinner on Tuesday 24th May 2016 by James Akrigg (Head of Technology for Partners at Microsoft) talking about Microsoft HoloLens and Microsoft Azure with an in-depth look at Microsoft Media Indexer and Microsoft Cognition Services (event also available in Virtual Reality).
And we are delighted to confirm that this event was our first to be streamed “live” in virtual reality using our Ricoh Theta S 360° to people from all around the World using 360° live stream technology providers, HugVR. James was a wonderful speaker bringing the technology to life with an in-depth presentation – the videos available online show just how important 3D technology will be to manufacturing, healthcare and many more industries across the World.
For those of you that do not yet fully understand the impact this technology will have, don’t panic – it won’t be here for some time however it is available in the US right now and is priced at around $3,000.
It is not tethered which makes it truly mobile and the presentation showed what exactly the user sees (specially adapted cameras were used to create video presentations).
Whilst only available as a business tool right now the presentation did show gamers using the device to play mixed reality games in the comfort of their own home. The Minecraft acquisition is obviously a key platform for future HoloLens developments.
The presentation moved on from Microsoft HoloLens to Azure and Cognition Services as well as Media Indexer. Both products drew gasps from the guests attending the event as demonstrations showed the power of these tools.
I loved the whole thing and forgot I was actually at work.
